Plan Overview

The purpose of this plan is to identify strategies to address issues of river erosion, land use and community development along the Matanuska River from Chickaloon to Palmer.

Plan Justification

In response to efforts to deal with erosion damages and increasing development along the Matanuska River, the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Planning Department convened a planning team representing federal, state and local governments, community councils, service areas and riverside residents to develop a Matanuska River Management Plan. The plan provides a framework for implementation of erosion control projects, land use regulations and other river management actions. It guides future collaborative efforts between federal, state and local governments and affected communities to seek funding and conduct preventative actions to address river erosion impacts.
