Governor Dunleavy has declared a State disaster emergency for the community of Talkeetna following an atmospheric river event that caused flooding and riverbank destruction. Current efforts are to repair the revetment that protects community infrastructure.
This declaration is for public infrastructure only and qualifies the Matanuska-Susitna Borough (MSB) for potential repair expense reimbursement. The Borough is bringing in additional material and estimates repairs to be up to $750,000. Repairs remain on track to be completed by mid October.
The MSB is requesting U.S Army Corps of Engineers assistance to develop a project for a more permanent solution.
