Matanuska-Susitna Borough

Some tax bills going out again

PALMER— The Matanuska-Susitna Borough discovered problems with some of its recent tax bills.

Taxpayers who are leasing state land or buying state land such as land owned by the Alaska Department of Natural Resources may not have received their bill. Instead the bills were incorrectly addressed to the state.

Also, senior citizens and disabled veterans who are eligible for property tax exemptions received their exemption but did not see the dollar amount of the exemption reflected on the tax bill. We want to assure you that the exemption was applied.

Also, the Borough is generating new bills for people who pre-pay their taxes, and who owed delinquent taxes as of June 30.

The Borough recently converted to a different software. It's not yet certain whether the software or the printing of the bills caused the errors, but staff is working to resolve it.

“We apologize for the error. Errors are sometimes a part of change. We'll resolve it shortly,” said John Duffy, Borough Manager.
