School Roads In, Alcohol Tax Out

MAT-SU — MAT-SU voters say Yes to bonds for school road projects and No to a tax on alcohol, according to unofficial results tonight with 16 percent of voters turning out in the Matanuska-Susitna Borough election.

In races for Borough Assembly seats, challenger Matthew Beck leads incumbent Noel Woods 835 to 712 as of election night for District 2.

In District 1, Jim Sykes leads Doug Glenn 996 to 951. Assembly Member Warren Keogh opted not to run for his seat.

In MAT-SU Borough School District races, School Board President Susan Pougher ran unopposed for Seat C, earning 6,674 votes so far.

For Seat F, challenger Donna Dearman has a 135-vote lead over incumbent Neal Lacy.

For Seat G, Ray Michaelson edges out incumbent Dave Cheezem by 726 votes tonight.

Some 1,895 absentee and questioned ballots were issued. Tomorrow, Oct. 2, the Canvass Board will convene to review absentee and questioned ballots. The election will be certified by Oct. 15.
