No Repeal of permanent car registration

An effort to repeal permanent car registration was postponed indefinitely by the Assembly tonight. The local Alaska DMV has been crowded recently by residents trying to get the pay one-more-time deal for cars, eight years and older. An effort to adjust recently increased landfill and transfer site fees was postponed to Aug. 18, among other news.

A proposed ordinance to give a property tax exemption for private property rented or leased as a charter school was postponed until Aug. 18.

An effort to lower the exemption rate for the business inventory tax also failed with sponsor Assembly Member Jim Sykes supporting it.

Some voters in Talkeetna will be able to vote on whether certain properties will be annexed into the Talkeetna Flood Control Service Area. The question is being put on the ballot in the Oct. 6 election.

Granite Construction Company contract is amended for $3,014,005 to add to their scope of work Trunk Road Extension South, the collector road access to Machetanz Elementary.

Jim Psenak Construction is awarded a contract for $144,099 for Jim Creek Parking Lot improvements.

Assembly Member Matthew Beck made the fine $100 for driving with an uncovered truck load of trash.
