Mat-Su at the Table of AK LNG project

On Feb. 27, 2018, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) issued a notice granting the Matanuska-Susitna Borough’s motion to intervene out-of-time. Under Rule 214 of the Commission’s Rules and Practice and Procedure, FERC has the authority to approve late motions and chose to do so in this case.

The Commission issued public notice of Alaska Gasline Development Corporation's (AGDC) application requesting authorization to construct and operate the Alaska LNG Project on May 1, 2017. The deadline to file for motions to intervene was established May 22, 2017. 

The Mat-Su Borough filed the motion to intervene on January 9, 2018, and included a letter outlining reasons for the late motion. Those documents can be found here.  Being included as an intervener, the Borough will now be allowed to submit comments as part of the Alaska Gasline Development Corporation’s (AGDC) application for the AK LNG project. All comments will be on public record and reviewed by FERC. 

Borough Manager John Moosey welcomed the good news. “We are pleased with FERC’s decision to include us as an intervener. We believe the AK LNG project can change the economics of Alaska, and given a fair review, Port MacKenzie has the potential to be a huge asset to the project.”
