Borough Manager John Moosey presented the proposed Borough budget to the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly yesterday. Moosey also gave an overview of highlights that Borough staff and the Assembly and local Legislators have achieved on behalf of the MAT-SU Borough, including capable response to the 2012 federally-declared flood disaster, the ongoing construction of Port MacKenzie Rail, funding for increasing salmon returns, and 7.5 km of new Nordic ski trails at Government Peak among many other efforts.
The proposed budget has an areawide mill rate of 9.912. Last year's mill rate was 9.691. After public hearings, the Assembly will deliberate on the budget and likely make changes.
A series of meetings are taking place.
Thursday at 5 pm, Directors continue presenting department budgets to the Assembly at 501 N. Gulkana Street in Palmer at the School Administration chambers.
The first public hearing on the proposed Borough budget is Tuesday, April 30 at 6 pm at the School Administration building.
Look over the 586-page budget on the Borough's budget page. The first 10 pages are helpful in understanding the budget.
