Friday Creek Fire 90 percent contained

The fire has been 90 percent contained.
Fire Incident Commander, Bob Crowe predicts mop-up, suppression, snag felling, monitor and demobilization through this weekend. His report concluded that no precipitation has fallen on the fire since before Monday, and that fuels remain dry. “It’s like there is a bubble over this thing,” Bob told Palmer Forestry Dispatch.

State Forestry Fire Prevention Officer, Tom Greiling, and BLM Law Enforcement Ranger, Jeff Duhrsen, scoured the fire Thursday investigating the cause, which remains under investigation. Investigating the point-of-origin seemed to indicate the fire started along a two-track ATV trail.

Homeowners burning debris and recreationists are urged to be cautious with open burning and burnable materials during this season of dead, often very dry grass.

Valley residents are reminded that the 50,000 acre Caribou Hills Fire in the Kenai last year, was started by sparks from a grinder used by a homeowner to sharpen a shovel. Fires can quickly spread out of control this time of year.
