Closures lifted, Sockeye Fire 79% contained

All evacuation and road closures have been lifted for the Sockeye Fire.

Willow Creek campground is also re-opened. Law enforcement officials will continue patrolling residential areas.

Hot ash pits, falling trees, and health risks associated with smoke remain hazardous to anyone in a burned area. Returning residents are advised to wear gloves, protective clothing and leather boots. Please be mindful of firefighters and use extra caution when driving in the fire area.

Containment of the fire perimeter is now 79% and the fire remains at 7,264 acres. Cloud cover and cooler temperatures have aided firefighters as they continue mopping-up hot spots around structures and along the fire’s edge. Pockets of unburned vegetation within the fire perimeter continue smoldering, and isolated flare-ups may occur.

Fire crews, equipment and helicopters will be released to other fires

as progress continues on the Sockeye Fire.

Flight Restrictions

Temporary Flight Restrictions (TFRs) remain in place for the Sockeye Fire area because of the continued potential for aircraft activity related to fire suppression. On Friday, June 19th the flight restriction was reduced to permit general aviation traffic into Long Lake, Willow Lake and the Willow Airport. Pilots are advised to visit http://tfr.faa.gov to view
