Budget public hearings close, budget on table

MAT-SU — Some residents asked the Assembly Monday night in Palmer to spend Borough funds on matching Human Services Community grants, on contributing to SART appropriations, and on developing the downhill ski area and real estate elements of the Government Peak Recreation Area. Some residents also called into the meeting, testifying by phone for the first time in a Borough budget hearing. Wednesday, (May 7), the Matanuska-Susitna Borough Assembly begins deliberations on the proposed budget. Borough Manager John Moosey proposed changes to the presented budget. The Manager's budget was submitted to the Assembly before the session in Juneau ended and before state appropriations were known. Moosey's budget edits are listed here in the document entitled "May 6 Manager Proposed Changes to the Presented Budget." Borough staff intends to post the budget documents as soon as possible for the meetings in which they are to be first discussed. The Assembly will begin budget deliberations at its special meeting on Wed., May 7, at 6 pm in the Assembly Chambers at 350 E. Dahlia Ave. in Palmer.
