Borough Donates 66 Turkey Dinners

Mat-Su | Patty Sullivan | Wednesday, November 21, 2018

Employees at the Matanuska-Susitna Borough donated 66 Thanksgiving dinners for Mat-Su residents during the holiday. The Matanuska-Susitna Borough Employees Association led the effort. The full turkey dinners were delivered Monday to the nonprofit Alaska Family Services in their efforts to provide a family dinner to 104 residents who requested the assistance. Borough employees have been making such donations since at least 2007.

Emily Houk with Alaska Family Services thanked the Borough employees for another year of supporting the effort. Char Avril, Vice President of Membership & Communications with MSBEA, and also the Operations Unit Supervisor at the Borough Landfill, didn't get much sleep the night before, due to the logistics of rounding up and delivering 66 turkeys and their side dishes. “We all are just a few paychecks away from needing help. It’s a good thing to give thanks and help others in need," she said.

Employees in the Public Works Department also donated $90 in cash. MSBEA President Chris Cole was greeted warmly by Alaska Family Services CEO Dr. Donn Bennice.

Numerous Borough employees helped in the effort.
