Big Lake Warning

Big Lake, Mat Su Borough-The Department of Emergency Services has received reports of open water in areas that are historically not open. These areas of concern may be in conjunction to the recent earthquake. The areas in question are from the South West end of Saddleback Island stretching to the west to the shoreline near Hullen’s Point. This area of open water and large cracks in the ice is ½ to ¾ of a mile long and 75 yards wide. 


Thin ice has been found near and around Burnt Point, and the fresh snowfall may be obscuring other areas. We are advising individuals to stay off the ice until the area and the ice can stabilize.
