Tonight, (June 1), Assembly Members passed a resolution, putting the question on the ballot for the Oct. 5, 2010 regular Borough election.
Assembly Member Mark Ewing sponsored the resolution.
The resolution points to a state law, which identifies how the change would take shape.
If the change in the form of government was adopted by voters, Mayor Talis Colberg would take on the duties of the Manager. If Mayor Colberg chose not to be the strong Mayor, a special election for a new mayor would be set.
Presently the Borough Manager runs Borough operations and is directed by the Assembly on policy decisions. The Mayor presides over Assembly meetings, may not vote except in a tie, and has veto power, among other duties.
A search for a Borough manager is ongoing. Borough Manager John Duffy resigned after 10 years as manager and 24 years overall at the Borough.
